Seoul’s Folk Asset No.8
384-1, Pil-dong,
Jung-gu, Seoul

Plan with square shaped women’s quarters and
perpendicular shaped men’s
quarters
Building area: 82.46 square meters |
|
|

This house was built by Kin Chun-yeong , one of the five
military commanders of Seoul in the 1890s. The buildings
were recently moved to this village from their original
site in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. |
|
The ladies’ quarters are U-shaped and the men’s
quarters, arranged in a straight line, were attached to
one end of the opening of the U to form a ladle shape.
The roof frame above the main wood floor room is comprised
of five main beams. |
|
The buildings with thick plank posts and single eaves
closely resemble those of commoners’ homes. However,
the rear wall of the main living room in the ladies’
quarters facing the main road was built with wainscot
and dressed stones-which further heightens the beauty
of the building. |
